Finally! It's what I've known to be true since 1990, when I started practicing yoga and began researching everything I could about nutrition and healthy eating.
It's what I've been teaching my clients for 12 years!
It's what I've written about in past newsletters!
- A mostly plant-based diet is healthier (with some animal protein, meat and fish)
- Eat a minimal amount of dairy, preferably low fat.
- Fruit juice is liquid sugar, eat fruits
- Make water your beverage of choice
- Replace refined carbs with good whole grains, quinoa, brown rice, etc.
- Fill half your plate with vegetables (and some fruits)
Dr. Hasan Hutchinson director general of Health Canada’s office of nutrition policy and promotion says,
"It is based on a rigorous scientific review using the best available evidence, and that industry-commissioned reports were intentionally excluded to reduce any perception of conflict of interest — real or perceived."
(In other words, the dairy and beef industry no longer had control of the guide)
I often joke with my clients, telling them "You heard it here first, years from now this will be general knowledge, but right now, very few people know about this."
One of my clients said that I am a thought leader in my industry... I'm always happy when scientific evidence catches up with me :-)
