Have you ever vowed to get up an hour earlier every day to get in your exercise, practice meditation, do yoga, write, or do something else? Only to find yourself hitting the snooze button over and over and getting up
at your regular time? Then beating yourself up for not being able to achieve your goals?
Each week, when I meet with my clients I have them chose their own two S.M.A.R.T. goals, which stands for:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Time Bound.
Yes, only 2 goals per week. The best way to achieve your goals is to implement small changes slowly over time, that you can then maintain long
term.
If my clients tell me that they want to get up an hour early to get in an hour of exercise, I say,
"No!" "Not unless you are sure that you are going to go to bed an hour earlier every evening."
They always agree that it's not realistic for them to be able to get to bed
earlier. So we find another time during the day/ week, and they schedule in their exercise at that time.
Most of us are already sleep deprived. We need our sleep for our well-being, health, weight loss and sanity! I don't know about you, but when I'm overtired my patience is greatly reduced, to put it mildly! It's not a good idea to sleep deprive yourself to try to
attain your health goals.
I find it appropriate that this post comes on the day we turn the clocks back in many parts of the world and gain an extra hour.
Perhaps you can get in an hour of exercise in the time we gained. :)
