Natural Solutions for ADHD
Seems to be that every other person and their child is being diagnosed with ADHD. Is the diagnosis being overused? Are we not simply living in an age where it is normal to be constantly distracted by non stop videos and sensationalistic information, literally at our fingertips?

If someone is diagnosed with ADHD,  first ask, can they focus for long periods of time on one thing? And if so, is it a normal way of focusing, not being hyper-focused? If yes, then maybe they were diagnosed too quickly. Either way, here are some suggestions to help children and adults alike.

ADHD Diet and Suggestions
A healthy diet with plenty of fresh whole foods, lots of water and no juice is essential: Reduce and eliminate all foods containing sugar, additives and preservatives, artificial flavour and food coloring.

One of my clients tells her kids that they can have something sweet on Fridays, so they don’t ask for it the rest of the week. They get a small treat once a week.

Children diagnosed with ADHD almost always have blood sugar level problems, hypoglycemia. Never delay a meal. Kids need a lot of protein, especially at breakfast. An egg and a piece of Kamut sourdough bread is perfect. The worst way to start the day is with sugary cereals, bread, jam, Kraft peanut butter, nutella, etc.

Ensure adequate protein at every meal, protein snacks, and a protein snack at bedtime if needed.

Getting enough essential fatty acids is also very important to help the brain:

  • fresh water salmon
  • fresh mackerel
  • sardines
  • walnuts
  • pecans
  • pine nuts
  • freshly ground flax seeds
  • avocados
  • almonds
  • sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • Or an omega 3 supplement

Check for food intolerances to such things as wheat, milk, eggs, sugar, corn, peanuts, soya, etc.

They may be deficient in some vitamins, a high quality, multi-vitamin is important.

Sometimes it’s a way for kids to get attention from mom.

Eliminate any sources of stress in their life.

It can be caused by parasites.  Do they complain of an itchy bum or itchy ears, itchy face or a little itchy all over?

Sometimes the body isn’t assimilating fats and minerals, which in turn inhibits the production of neurotransmitters. This metabolism happens in the liver. A weak liver is often the cause of food intolerances and allergies. A liver supplement can help.

There are some completely natural, kid friendly supplements you can try that are naturally calming and help focus.

Bach Flower Remedies can also help.

Check if candida is present, an overabundance of yeast in the body.

It is good to nourish them intellectually, physically,  and to ensure they don’t have a leaky gut that is letting toxins through.

There is so much you can do on the natural side, contact me for more information.

"I consulted with Sue-Anne for frequent headaches, occasional migraines, and chronic fatigue during the day. I immediately took her advice and included a protein component to every meal or snack I consumed and tried to drink more water as well.

After only a week, I had already noticed a difference. Several months have passed with this easy change and I can't remember the last time I had a headache!

The fatigue has subsided as well and I feel much more sustained energy throughout my days at work and evenings at school. Sue-Anne was able to help me overcome something I had been struggling with for years."
