Last May when I got back on my road bike, I started experiencing an intense tingling down my right arm. I was unable to bike because of it. Those of you who know me, know that a summer without biking is about the worst torture I could possibly endure. I often put 5,000 kms or 3,000
miles on my bike each year. I was so bummed!
After 4 months working with an athletic therapist and no improvement I finally booked an MRI. I thought it was simply a pinched nerve. When I got the results I was shocked. " Mild to moderate multi level degenerative disc disease, worse at C6, C7 and other long words indicating bone spurs, etc. My doctor said it was normal, age related, and besides osteo or Physio, there was
nothing I could do.
Still in shock I didn't reply, but thought to myself, "Oh ya? Just watch me!!"
"How did this happen to me?" I questioned. I came up with a few ideas...
1. Many years of partying through high school, university and beyond. Smoking, drinking, and an unhealthy diet. No, I was definitely not always so health
conscious!
2. My body was Very overly acidic for 25 years or more and it wasn't until I began studying to be a Naturopath in 2006 that I tested my pH and reduced my acidity. Acidity is to the body what rust is to a car, corroding the joints and causing inflammation. It is essential to keep our body pH balanced!
3. Being protein deficient (for my body type) for the 16 years I was
vegetarian.
4. Years of yoga, practicing the shoulderstand without using blankets to support the neck and a lot of cycling on a road bike straining my neck.
