The 10 Commandments of the Digestive System

  1. Eat breakfast... after you fast
  2. Plan meals... in advance, for non-stop energy
  3. Chew... before swallowing
  4. Savour food... to aid digestion
  5. Relax... before eating
  6. Walk... after eating
  7. Drink... in between meals
  8. Avoid... boiling hot or icy cold food or drinks
  9. Limit... condiments
  10. Eliminate... regularly

As for # 10... What is regularly? Three times per day!

So many of my clients think one bowel movement per day is normal. Sorry, those of you who have infants know that for every meal they eat, there is a bowel movement and that is normal. Normal transit time is eight to fourteen hours.

Drinking plenty of water and eating lots of high fiber foods is key.

What kinds of foods are high in fiber? Easy, everything that grows. Vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, nuts, seeds whole grains, legumes are all high in fiber.

High Fiber Snack
 Here is a delicious recipe to keep you and your family regular. Perfect for kids.

Dried Fruit Balls

Chop by hand or in the food processor:

2 cups organic raisins
2 cups organic prunes
2 cups organic dates

Put in a bowl and add
8 tablespoons of whey, soy or vegan protein powder
6 tablespoons ground flax seeds
8 tablespoons organic molasses

Mix well
Add a little water if necessary, form into balls about golf ball size. Have 1 before a meal with a large glass of water.
