How to Reduce Your Java Intake Painlessly!

I must admit, I never drank coffee. I didn't want to have to rely on a substance or something to get me going in the morning.  Don't worry, I don't ask my clients to give up their coffee, but if they are drinking 3 or 4 cups of coffee or tea every day, I usually ask them to cut down a bit.

Why?

We are so over stressed! Anxiety is the new depression. A friend of mine who is a psychologist told me that in the past many clients came to her for depression. Now it is anxiety. Many of my clients have anxiety as well.

Caffeine exacerbates the situation, here's how:

Caffeine doesn't increase energy, it tricks the body into using up its energy reserves. The more a person uses coffee, the more a person's energy reserves become depleted. The adrenal glands weaken and fatigue, anxiety, nervousness and insomnia, increase. Being a diuretic, it also tends to be dehydrating. I could go on about how caffeine increases acidity in the body and irritates the digestive system, etc, but you get the picture.

Although research suggests that there are some health benefits because of the antioxidants, why not get your antioxidants from blueberries and other fresh fruits and vegetables?

How to reduce your coffee intake
  • Always reduce coffee slowly to avoid headaches
  • Eat a big breakfast with lots of protein, 2 eggs, or increase  protein with a protein shake, extra nuts or nut butters, seeds, etc.
  • Eat less sugar
  • Have a high protein snack at 10 AM, avoid sweets at this time
  • Increase fiber by eating more growing foods, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains to avoid constipation.
  • Eat at regular hours to avoid a drop in blood sugar levels
  • Drink more water
  • Exercise
  • Finish eating at 7PM to be hungry for a big breakfast
  • Take a high quality Complex B Vitamin and Vitamin C to help boost energy by supporting adrenal function.

Let me know how you make out!

Mexican Rice and Bean Casserole
This is an easy, tasty dish popular with both kids and adults. It  is from The Lighthearted Cookbook..

Mexican Rice and Bean Casserole

1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
½ cup water
1 onion chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 ½ cups mushrooms chopped
2 red or green peppers chopped
3/4 cup long grain brown rice
1 can red kidney beans (19 oz/540 ml) or cook your own
1 can tomatoes (28 oz/796 ml)
1 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp cumin
¼ tsp cayenne
1 cup shredded low fat mozzarella cheese

Preheat the oven to 350º F

In a large skillet or dutch oven, heat oil with water over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, mushrooms and green peppers; simmer stirring often, until onion is tender, about 10 minutes.

Add rice, beans, tomatoes, chili powder, cumin and cayenne; cover and simmer for about 35 minutes (or longer) or until rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

Transfer to baking dish and sprinkle with cheese.

Bake in 350 oven for about 15 minutes.

"I used to have eczema and when I went to see Sue-Anne, she gave me some creams and vitamins, that fixed most of my ezcema. Before my skin was open and after that it closed my skin.
I do not trust the creams you get from the other doctors because it hurts and burns my skin, it does not cure my skin, it made it worse.
If you do not want to see my naturopath at the beginning, I will give you her best advice: lower your sugar because its bad for the ezcema."
